Wikipedia article traffic : ウィキペディア英語版
Wikipedia article traffic

Wikipedia article traffic deals with the statistics of user access to Wikipedia articles. Commonly known as hits, the graphic portrayal of these numbers may produce surprising results and insights.
Since its launch in 2001, the English edition of Wikipedia has grown to become the world's sixth-most-popular website, according to Alexa Internet, recording over 186 million hits per day, 522,291,365 edits, 792,182 uploaded files, and 16,442,147 registered users.〔http://wikistics.falsikon.de/latest/〕〔(Coolefriend.com )〕
The traffic counter currently in use has been in operation since (2008 ) and is the brainchild of the Wikipedia editor . The use of this counter has become a popular pastime, with users checking the viewership history of any Wikipedia topic that comes to mind.〔(PC appscout )〕 Traffic on particular Wikipedia articles is directly related to how often the phrase is used on the Internet.
The number of hits may reflect a fleeting interest such as in the lunar eclipse of 21 December 2010 when the article on Lunar eclipses saw (numbers surging from 0 to 1.35 million in the space of one week and then returning to 0 ), though oddly the article on that particular eclipse remains popular.
Hits may also be of a cyclic nature with a period of one week, reflecting sociological trends. The graph of the computer worm Conficker is particularly clear cut and shows great interest throughout the week, dropping sharply over weekends. This may be seen as the result of a large number of users having access to office computers during workdays, while the sharp drop-off over weekends may be a combination of having left the office and weekend recreation.
==Correlations ==
Events as deaths, scandals, international media transmissions, etc. causes instantaneous audience, producing significant peaks in the article's traffic. Usually, at Wikipedia, two articles with "correlated subjects" have links between them, so the audience navigates from one to another, as well as web search engines can point to both (by users-view of the subjects).
